Title: The Adept
Post by: AXUM on September 04, 2009, 03:35:19 PM
Hiyas!

I keep hearing about this "adept" sorcerer option (& how broken it is)... I wonder if it has been completely excised from the current Sorcerer RPG book (the 2001 version's the one I posses), or are there remnants?

Thanks

There isn't anything called The Adept. Nor are there "options" for playing Sorcerer.

It is possible you're talking about the Apprentice, an experiment I released in 1999, well before the finalized version of the game and reflecting the state of the design at that time. But I don't want to guess at what you mean. I recommend developing some solid basis for your question, because it looks to me as if you're remembering something you heard about what someone might have said, or something equally vague. The more grounded your question, the better I can answer.

"And finally, please put aside the Apprentice.  That is not quick-play Sorcerer.  Many of its rules are obsolete.  It is available only because people have found it interesting to see the game's design history.  If you try to read and apply it as if it were the game, you'll get a clunky, con-oriented GM's-scenario play that is not especially compelling compared to what the game can really do."

This is what I'm referring to.  I guess it was a separate entity from Sorcerer, huh?

Yes, that's the Apprentice. I don't know if you've noticed that you called it "The Adept."

I'm sure anyone around here can email you a copy if you want. If anyone wants to, contact Ax by private message.
