Dogs by the Numbers

Hello,
I was wondering, how did you arrive at the die allocations for character creation in Dogs in the Vineyard? Was there a concern for "balance" in order to make sure no character had a statistical advantage over another, or was it guesswork. Or was there just a lot of playtesting tat helped you artrive at those numbers?
Thanks for any insight you offer,

Here's a very good thread on the subject:
Creating Backgrounds
. Go read that thread, and if you have any questions after, come back to this thread to ask 'em.
